VOLUNTEERING

SAIA depends on volunteers to serve the neighborhood in a variety of jobs ranging in responsibility. These include officer, director, and committee chair positions, from which you may exert a strong influence over the services and amenities we offer the community, liaison positions, in which you can ensure that our neighborhood is represented before other organizations and agencies, and focused, well-defined, short-term tasks, that permit you to contribute a part without imposing a significant commitment of your time.

If you would like to contribute 3-4 hours of time a year to the Association, we ask that you fill out the form below and send it to us by clicking on the "submit" button. If you would like to participate more fully, please contact the President or relevant committee chair. A brief summary of the responsibilities of each committee is listed on the Who's Who page.

COMMITTEES

Buildings and Grounds Committee

The Buildings and Grounds Committee is responsible for the condition and administration of all physical facilities owned by the Association, including the beach, boat ramp. Clubhouse, recreation area, and announcement signs.

Beach: The committee removes trash, keeps vegetation trimmed; maintains tables, grills, and other equipment in working order; and locks the beach gate every night and unlocks it in the morning.

Boat Ramp: The committee maintains the ramp, catwalk, and ramp gate in working order; changes the lock at the beginning of the fiscal year; and enforces boat ramp rules.

Clubhouse: The committee repairs, maintains, and ensures the working order of the building and its mechanical systems; keeps the facility clean, ensures compliance with all fire and safety codes; maintains the physical condition of the grounds; and schedules use of the building or grounds, including the handling of rentals.

Playground and Recreation Area: The committee ensures that all playground equipment is in safe and useful condition; maintains condition of basketball court; and determines what upgrades and improvements will be undertaken.

Other: The committee maintains condition of announcement signs at beach, clubhouse, and the top of the hill. It also prepares, organizes, and supervises spring cleanup at the beach and clubhouse.

 

Communications Committee

The Communications Committee is responsible for all means of providing information to the community and - when appropriate - information about community events to those outside the neighborhood. It does this through the newsletter, flyers, postings on announcement signs, and through the internet.

Newsletter: The committee writes and edits the Shore Acres News at least 3 times each fiscal year; sets policies and rates for sale of advertisements in newsletter; and distributes to all members of the Shore Acres community.

Flyers: The committee composes announcements of meetings and events, and distributes them to all members of the Shore Acres community.

Postings: The committee prepares and posts large-type banner announcements at the sign at the top of the hill; posts copies of flyers and newsletters on the announcement signs at the beach and recreation field; and when appropriate posts announcements at other community locations and local bulletin boards.  Submit requests for signs to Pres@ShoreAcresMD.com .

Internet: The committee maintains and updates a web site for the Association and sends electronic copies of announcements to members who have provided e-mail addresses.  Submit requests for website changes to WebMaster@ShoreAcresMD.com .

Other: The committee maintains and uses press contacts to advertize Shore Acres events, and maintains adequate supply of brochure describing Shore Acres and the SAIA.

 

Community Action Committee

The Community Action Committee is responsible for the Association's liaison with other community organizations and with the County and State governments. It also concerns itself with community environmental and beautification issues.

Liaison: The committee sends representatives to attend, vote, and report on meetings of the Broadneck Federation and Magothy River Association; coordinates activities with representative of the Lake Placid Waterway Improvement Tax District; and conducts Association business with County and State agents.

Beautification: The committee secures dumpsters from the County's Solid Waste Bureau to be placed on Clubhouse grounds for the use of Shore Acres Residents; and it bears responsibility for originating and supervising any Association effort to improve the appearance of the neighborhood by collecting debris or controlling vegetation along roadways, or improving enforcement of zoning and related regulations.

Environment: The committee monitors problems with community water, sewage, waterway, erosion control; and it manages the Association's role in pest control initiatives such as for gypsy moths and mosquitos.

Legislative Action: The committee tracks proposed legislation and regulations that may affect the Association's interests, and brings such issues to the attention of the Board and community. It also coordinates participation of the Association in the County School Board Nominating Convention.


Entertainment and Hospitality Committee

The Entertainment and Hospitality committee is responsible for organizing all social events, including children's parties; for providing refreshments at Association meetings; and for welcoming new residents into the neighborhood.

Social Events: The committee, proposes organizes and supervises all Association parties and other social events, including seasonal parties for children.

Refreshments at Fundraisers and Meetings: The committee is responsible for supplying refreshments at general membership meetings; and for providing refreshments at fundraisers as requested.

Welcoming New Residents: The committee identifies new residents and aranges for visitation to welcome them.

 

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee is responsible for securing sufficient income to underwrite Association activities.

Membership: The committee is responsible for promoting membership participation within the community, including sending and processing membership renewals, recruiting new members, and maintaining a complete record of membership.  Please send emails to Membership@ShoreAcresMD.com .

Fundraising: The committee proposes, organizes, and supervises fundraising events, including raffles, and the community flea market.

Budget: Once a year, the committee prepares a budget for the coming fiscal year, and with the asset of the Board, presents it to the membership for approval.

Auditing: The committee ensures that an audit of the Association books is undertaken in every odd-numbered year, upon the election of a new Treasurer, or at the request of the President, Board, or general membership.
